Date and Fee Review

Open registrations began for new members: June 1, 2026 

New members registering for the 2026-2027 year (Sept.- Aug.) will pay the full annual fee of $295. Existing youth renewing on June 1 or later will pay $295 rate as well.

Part-year registration begins: December 1, 2026 

Members registering past this point will pay a pro-rated fee of $210 (Dec.- Aug.) for the remainder of the 2026-2027 Scouting Year.

Waitlist Management Tips

• New members were able to join waitlists as of  June 1.
• Waitlist functionality was paused but has now resumed and should be operating as intended
• Keep the lines of communication open 
• Talk to neighboring groups as soon as you have folks start joining the waitlist 

Capacity

"Notify Parent" feature is scheduled to be released in late summer which will enable Sections to request a notification be sent to a parent of existing youth asking them to confirm their intent to continue attending meetings. Parent will be given a choice of confirming their intent to continue or removing their child from the participant roster. The feature is intended to be used in cases where youth has stopped attending meetings and Section would like to confirm their intent to continue to be able to set capacity accurately. 

What’s Different This Year

• Capacity has been recalibrated before registration opening
• The system now distinguishes between:
• Returning youth (renewals)
• New member registrations

Result
MyScouts now shows true remaining capacity for new members, not total theoretical space.

IT completed a national capacity alignment in MyScouts. Capacity was determined by:​

• Starting from each section’s planned capacity for the next program year​
• Accounting for youth currently registered who are expected to continue​
• Calculating the remaining spaces available for new members​

Communication to New & Returning Youth

It's important that our new members receive an acknowledgement of registration from their Group. Youth and their families want to know what to expect and feel very welcome to their Scouting experience. 

It's best practice to have a letter ready to send as each registration comes in. Your letter should include the following: 

• A warm welcome
• "Meet the Scouters" (Name, Scouting nick name, and contact info. For our youngest members, a picture of Scouters can reduce jitters)
• How the Group communicates (links to social media or chat apps)
• Meeting information
• Any details on how the Group manages fundraising
• Uniforms/supplies
• Annual camps or events
• An open invitation for families to be involved

Summer Tips for Connection

• When new and returning youth register, send the family a letter/email welcoming them to, or back to, the Group and Section.
  
  
• Send occasion cards to youth (birthday, condolence, graduation, get well, etc). Some Groups have added a "connections officer" to their Group Committee and they look after initiatives such as this. Some Groups have their Group Administrator help with this task, some Section Scouters take this on. 
  
  
• Hold a family barbeque or park day once a month through the summer to have new and existing youth meet, have parents connect, and keep Scouting front of mind.
  
  
• Send an email 3 weeks before regular meetings start to remind youth, build hype, and give any instructions or resources needed.
